Introduction to Physics in Unity
Unity provides a simple way to add Physics to a GameObject. We simply “Add Component”, “Ridgidbody”. Once this is done our GameObject has “Mass” and will respond to gravity if the “Use Gravity” box is checked.
By adjusting the “Mass” we can make a GameObject float like a feather or fall like a brick. The Physics engine may seem simple on the surface, but it is a very complex component. According to the Unity Manual: “Unity Physics is a deterministic rigid body dynamics system and spatial query system written from the ground up using the Unity data oriented tech stack. Unity Physics originates from a close collaboration between Unity and the Havok Physics team at Microsoft.” That makes it a little above my current skill level.
