GameDevHQ Day 0…The Journey Begins…
It was in November of 1981, I was a senior in the Electronics Communications program at Columbia Montour Area Vocational Technical School located in Bloomsburg, Pennsylvania in the United States of America. I was a very skinny young man back then hungry for knowledge and fascinated by the vacuum tubes and transistors. This hunger for electronics plus the fact I was the only student armed with a Radio Shack 4k Color Computer helped to elevate me to the status of “a Brain” which was the goal most pocket protector equipped nerds strived to obtain back then.
It was in the early afternoon when I took a break and stared out the window to see the first snowflakes of the season. I quickly drifted off into space… Then with lights flashing and alarms sounding I saw may self running across a mighty hanger bay and jumping into the cockpit of a Colonial Viper located on the Battlestar Galactica, starting the three engine, then pressing the “Turbo” button on the flight stick I launched myself into space in video game with full color HD resolution. At the time my Color Computer had 4k of ram, the usable resolution of 320 x 192 with up to 16 simultaneous colors. The next Gen Color Computer II had 64k of ram and higher resolutions, but still not high enough to bring my vision to life.
Now here I am 39 years latter, the owner of my own industrial electronics repair business getting ready to take a journey with GameDevHQ and turn my dreams into reality and change the world one program at a time. So follow along with my journey and watch the “magic” of alchemy as thought transforms into physical reality…
